Located in Rayong, Thailand, Furnish Studio is a well-known art studio owned by Bo Puntita, a young Thai artist. Our team has had the privilege of being a part of her journey and gained valuable experience in understanding the artist and the space condition. The studio specializes in oil painting art, and ventilation is a top priority in the design of such a space.
To create an adequate ventilated oil painting studio that also enhances the working environment, the design planning first looked for a site opportunity. The team found a pond located northeast that brings a cold breeze to the area. The site is also surrounded by an agricultural area that is not commonly found in an industrial estate province like Rayong. To reduce transportation energy and minimize industrial waste, the team used unusable industrial waste products and local materials in the studio’s design.
Concrete spacers, waste products from concrete testing, and bamboo battens were used as the building’s skin to allow for flexible wind circulation and light filtration. This not only adds specialty but also simplicity to the construction. The requirement for an oil painting studio is mostly open spaces, which are prioritized for ventilation and creating multiple perspectives for an artist.
The use of concrete spacers not only minimized industrial waste but also lowered the construction budget, which allowed for an elevated interior space. Flexible bamboo battens were used to lower electricity consumption, and circular swing bamboo battens allow the artist to adjust the opening angle and light density freely.
Furnish Studio’s design supports the idea of surviving without using air conditioning or reducing electricity consumption, which is better for the world. Bamboo is a local material that is easily found and locally grown in Thailand, and its use benefits both the owner and society.
Furnish Studio’s design is a perfect example of how an oil painting studio should be designed. The studio’s use of waste products and local materials not only minimizes industrial waste but also creates a unique and sustainable design. If you’re looking for a top-quality art studio, Furnish Studio is the place to be.
